Art Journal Round Robin Hosted By JoyAnne
Created on: 7/28, 2010 at 10:38 pm
I have come to look forward to art journaling. Sure, I like doing ATCs but there's something great about going a bit bigger. When JoyAnne invited me to participate in her round robin, I couldn't believe my good luck! There are 6 of us in the group and we're to do 5 pages each. She set the parameters that we could do more if we felt like it and my journal has tons of pages, so I did 6 entries of 2 pages each.
The first one didn't count in my mind since it was just the intro page with the prompts. I'm sorry now that I forgot to photo it. My prompts are: Introduce yourself, Who do you love, What makes you happy, What are your favorite things and Describe your perfect vacation.
Here's my intro page. Self portrait, emphasizing my freckles.
Who do you love? Here's Husband, Youngest, Oldest, my mom and Molly. Husband looks nothing like how I drew him. Dark hair? Check. Big 'ol beard? Check. Crazy psycho glaze-eyed killer spaced out stare? Um, yeah. He doesn't ever do that. I felt bad that I drew him so ugly 'cause he really is handsome. Oldest and Youngest came out great. Especially Youngest. She always has that look on her face. My mom came out how I meant to do her, red hair and all, even though she doesn't get that look but by way of a bottle. But she seldom wears eyeliner and her face is all wrong compared to real life. She's really beautiful, but I accidentally made her look like a Soccer Mom, which she ain't. Sorry mom. I need to give you another go and see if I can do better.
What makes you happy? This is self explanatory and if you know me real well, you're nodding along right now.
What's your dream vacation? I needed to do this sunflower. I'm in the Sunflower ATC swap, too and I've been stuck on this design. I watercolored the background. The petals I made by slapping a layer of yellow paint onto book pages. When it was dry, I sharpied on the black leaf shape. When that was dry, I markered up the middle with orange, brown and yellow. Then I cut them out an individually pasted them on. There are three rows on this one.
Oh! The horror!

So, a while back I was messing around, taking pictures, and I shot underneath the wheel well of my car. Mind you, my car goes nowhere, so there was a good chance there'd be something there. Yeah. There was. I think it's a Brown Widow spider, but Husband disagrees.
Today I checked back in with her. EW! Ew, ew, ew, ew ew! Oh my freaking god! What the fuck is that?
BABIES! 500 of them! Anyone want a car? Cheap?
Sounds Plausible to Me...

Dream a Dream in the Beer Garden

This is my first Skinny. Turns out my Skinnies aren't the only Skinnies. A Skinny is like a burly ATC- 3x5 instead of 2.5x3.5. This was for the That's Junk swap hosted by BelleSouth. This one went to Crescendo, who lives pretty close to Seattle. The premise of this swap was to collect trash from around town and make it into art. I'm always picking up the squished bottle caps I find. They're interesting additions to bead embroidery. This time they ended up as flowers. Hence- Beer Garden.
This ATC is for the Fontastic swap hosted by CSNYfan. In this swap, we had to build a theme around one word provided by the recipient of the ATC. My partner, DeeLee from Australia asked for the word dream. This would be such a terrific series.
I couldn't help taking a picture of my sad little beets. These have been in the ground for two months. Our cold, wet early summer did nothing for these poor little guys. I hope I get beets this year.
And check out my fetal peas! Damn!
